About us

Delphine, tell us where you come from:

I was born in Paris in the 18th arrondissement, and I grew up there.

This neighborhood, and in particular Montmartre, then became my playground, the one that helped me to fly on my own after a simple and very happy childhood, spent with my mother and grandparents, who are today the basis of my inspiration.

Where does your passion for jewelry come from?

Even as a little girl, I dreamed of being a fashion designer. I remember sketching outfits for my mother in primary school. Then, at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, I learned to tame my creative impulses. In the accessories department, I had already created a jeweled iguana-shaped bag entirely embroidered with beads. I’ve always loved wearing extravagant clothes and jewelry; it was like deciding each day who I wanted to be.

In 2012, at just 30 years old, I set off with my backpack to travel the world and see if the grass was greener on the other side. It was in Brazil that the brilliant idea for a lucky charm cuff came to me, which led to the immense success of the Hipanema jewelry brand that I then created with Jenny Collinet. I’ve always worn lucky charms steeped in superstition. For me, jewelry is a testament to the past that gives you the strength to move forward into the future. I have this mystical passion, intertwined with my roots, that guides me in each of my creations. Famous for its hippie-chic cuffs, the small brand, forever radiating the colors of Rio de Janeiro, celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2022 and boasts of having sold millions of bohemian bracelets worldwide.

After creating a costume jewelry brand like Hipanema, why venture into the world of luxury? What was missing? / What new things are you looking for?

It is not a taste for luxury that leads me to create the Van Den Abeele house, but rather the search for meaning, for transmission.

Van Den Abeele is my husband’s surname and also my daughters’ surnames. And I wanted to dedicate my passion to them through pieces that will be passed down from generation to generation. Furthermore, jewelry making allows me to showcase the craftsmanship that has been so dear to me since the beginning.

Naturally curious, I am discovering the world of jewelry with tremendous enthusiasm, where the magic of a dazzling piece rewards extraordinary and meticulous work. The craftsmanship of gold and the clarity of precious stones, combined with my colorful imagination in this very classic field, thrill me at every moment.

What do you hope to bring to the jewelry industry with this new brand?

I like to break the rules and create contrasts, to be free, not to follow but to set the tone, all in color, of course. I love the idea of shaking up the academicism of Parisian craftsmanship with the uninhibited audacity of costume jewelry. For me, perfection lies somewhere between classic and eccentric. It is in this luxurious paradox that I bring together enamel and the colors of the sun.

Why did you choose your children's names and not your own to embody this new adventure?

My family today is the one I’ve built, the one I’ve chosen. If I had chosen my birth name, I would have turned to the past, but every day my curiosity compels me to discover this future in which I love to lose myself and which my children so perfectly embody. It was therefore essential for me to give this new adventure a perspective that will transcend me, or at least I hope so. Miracles happen when you draw with your heart and draw your strength from the love you have for others.

Your models have women's names, can you tell us more about that?

My mother has always been a true inspiration to me. She’s an insatiable woman, always striving for perfection, yet she marvels at everything with a childlike wonder. Today, I’m a mother myself, and I try, as much as possible, to follow her example: that of a whimsical spirit in pursuit of perfection, whether in my personal life or in my creative work.

Thus, Van Den Abeele naturally pays homage to the women in my family, who have always played a crucial role in my life: Stella, a celestial expression, full of brilliance, placing a sparkling gemstone at the heart of the jewel, like a star. Marnie, like the youngest, is fearless and full of joy. She radiates color, beauty through singularity.

You often refer to lucky charms, is this a recurring theme in your life?

Indeed, I rely primarily on my intuition and my talismans, which help me know if the stars are aligned.
I like to feel protected and to have my decisions guided by positive forces. But for me, these powers have a face: that of my ancestors. I often think of my grandmother, who is surely watching over me from beyond the Big Dipper. I know where I come from, and for me, that is the most precious thing in the world.
